Android apps crashing for some users; Google working on fix

UPDATE (15:04 IST): “We have resolved the issue with WebView that caused some apps on Android to crash for some users. Updating Android System WebView and Google Chrome via Google Play should now resolve the issue.”

A number of users are facing issues with their Android apps right now. According to reports, a number of Android apps are crashing – however, Google is working on a fix. The problem’s crux is a system component called Android System WebView which allows Android apps to display web content. It is facing some kind of problem right now causing the apps to crash.

Google in a statement to The Verge stated, “We are aware of an issue with WebView causing some apps on Android to crash for some users. We are currently working to fully validate the scope and a fix is in progress.”

A number of users have found a way to circle around the problem – by removing the latest update to WebView. Also, Samsung’s official US support Twitter handle has recommended users to do exactly that.

Google has also acknowledged the issues with the Gmail app for Android as well. The company asked users to use the desktop interface. The issue has been resolved. Google has stated in order to rectify the issue:

“The problem with Gmail has been resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support. Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better.

Updating Android System WebView and Google Chrome via Google Play should now resolve the issue for all users.

2. Search for Android System WebView
