BEIJING, April 12 (Xinhua) — The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.
GREATER BIODIVERSITY IN TIBET
A recent survey has found that the number of wild terrestrial vertebrate species in southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region has increased to 1,072, up from the 701 recorded in a survey eight years ago.
The survey, conducted from 2012 to 2020, has identified five new species — three frog species in different areas of Tibet, the white-cheeked macaque and a viper species.
GLOBAL URBAN EXPANSION
Global urban expansion has been continuously accelerating since 2000, according to a recent research article published in the journal Science Bulletin.
The research showed that the global urban land area expanded from 239,000 square km in 2000 to 519,800 square km in 2020. In the 10 years from 2010 to 2020, global urban expansion moved at a speed of 17,500 square km per year — faster than the decade prior.
SCI-TECH INNOVATION IPOs
China’s securities regulator has approved the initial public offerings (IPOs) of four companies on the science and technology innovation board.
BOZHON Precision Industry Technology Co., Ltd., Shanghai Rightongene Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Haiyan Power System Resources Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. and Everdisplay Optronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will be listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s sci-tech innovation board, commonly known as the STAR market, according to the China Securities Regulatory Commission.
